One day last summer I was at the JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh, where I took some unremarkable photographs of birds and flowers. Later I noticed a bee hovering in one photo. What a missed opportunity, I thought. That photo would have been excellent if only I’d tried to focus on the bee. Earlier this year I had been thinking about that photograph and went searching online for good images of bees. I painted this watercolor based on one of the images I found. I’m told these are carpenter bees, but I don’t know. I just like it — and I have already sold several prints of this one! Original watercolor, 5.5″x8″
