I have just finished a new watercolor painting. This time it is the house finch, probably the most common bird in my area. Of all the birds I’ve seen in the Raleigh area, the little house finch is by far the one I have seen the most – at my own feeders and everywhere else. The males have red heads that seem to get brighter and more intense as the weather warms. You’ll probably see house finches that look more gray than this one, but I loved the warm tones of my reference photo, so I painted him that way. The original is on 5×7” watercolor paper.
