I’m finally painting again after a long break. A successful couple of days at Rebus Works earlier this month really helped. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and talked with me about birds and my work.
This is a pair of painted buntings, a male and a female, that I put together from a couple of different reference images I found online. The painted bunting is popular because of its strikingly bold “color scheme,” but it’s not a local bird for me. While you won’t see these in the Triangle area, if you’re near the NC coast you may look for them in areas with scruffy vegetation like hedgerows and thickets.
The original watercolor is about 5×7” image size.
