One of the Triangle area’s cutest birds is number 6 in my portrait series: the Carolina chickadee. These little guys eat insects and spiders but also fruit and seeds, so they are easily attracted to backyard bird feeders. They are fun to watch.

You can tell Carolina chickadees from black-capped chickadees easily: if you see one around here, it’s a Carolina chickadee! Seriously though, the black-capped are larger and the bottom edge of their black bib is not as clean as on the Carolina birds.

My original watercolor is 5×7” on Magnani paper. I’ve got at least 2 more birds to do in this series so please subscribe for updates or follow me on Instagram (@CraigLaurerArt).
