I haven’t painted a bird with coffee, or any animal with coffee, since I did “Joe Squirrel” a while back – almost two years ago, actually. I just finished this new one last week. I’m calling him “Joe Crow.” though he could be a raven, I think he’s just an American Crow.
Like any good crow, he prefers his coffee like he prefers everything else: black.
I give my Joe Birds a blank white coffee cup, so that I can add a logo to the scanned image. (I use GIMP because it’s free and it basically does what PhotoShop does). This particular image has the logo of Rebus Works Cafe and Grocery in Raleigh. Rebus Works hosts the Raleigh DIY Punk Rock Flea Market twice a year. I’ll be selling at the next one, October 11-12, 2025.
I’m also printing “Joe Crow” aka “Black, Please” with CupAJoe and Lucky Tree logos as postcards, note cards, and prints. The original watercolor is almost 6×8” (on the good paper, of course).
