OK I did another bird portrait. I thought I was done with this series for now, but I’ve decided to make a calendar, so I need 12, obviously. Number 10 is the Eastern Bluebird, a year-round resident in all areas of NC. You can attract them to your yard with dried mealworms on a platform feeder or in a special bluebird feeder. If you don’t get bluebirds right away, you’ll likely get some wrens!
You can also aid in their comeback from endangered status by setting up a bluebird house. Pre-made bluebird houses are not expensive, but don’t do this unless you have a spot that meets the requirements for successful bluebird nesting.
My original watercolor is about 5×7” and I’m making prints, notecards, and postcards. And soon, my 2026 calendar. Spoiler alert: the bluebird will be the bird for April.
