Early last spring a yellow-rumped warbler visited my feeder and even though I only saw him (or his mates) a few times before they headed north, I got a good photograph of him. I was able to identify this bird as a myrtle warbler with my photo, but I used a different photo for my painting. I guess there is a trend in birding to distinguish between the Myrtle Warbler and the Audobon’s Warbler among the yellow-rumped warblers who, in turn, are members of the wood warblers family. The myrtle is the only one you’re going to see around here and only in the winter at that. Anyway, I painted this “yellow-rumped (myrtle) warbler” from a photo I found online, the original is 5.5″x8″ watercolor.

The original painting of the yellow-rumped Myrtle warbler has been sold, but prints are still available.
