Eastern painted turtles can be found in still or slow-moving waters (ponds, lakes, marshes) around the Triangle area. They’re omnivorous, subsisting on aquatic plants, insects, crustaceans, and fish. These colorful basking turtles are quite beautiful but it’s illegal to take or possess one.
